SW Resources Celebrates its 50th Anniversary providing services our community!
“In 1964 there were no services available to adults with disabilities in the Parkersburg, WV area, so in response the Parkersburg Junior League and the Wood County A.R.C., helped to form
the Sheltered Workshop of Wood County. The organization started with a small building on oak street, containing a single card table and only 2 clients.
By the 1970′s the sheltered workshop had grown and moved to its new location on Mary Street. They continued to expand, offering services to over 30 clients with developmental disabilities.
In the 1980’s major changes took place in the organization as their services grew. Construction began on a new facility that enabled them to bring services to over 150 clients. This growth brought new state and federal contracts to assist in providing meaningful employment for their clients.
As the needs of the community changed, so did the organization, and in 1992 they removed sheltered workshop from their name and became known as SW Resources, Inc.
Their growth continues to this day as SW Resources provides rehabilitation and employment opportunities for over 200 clients with mental and physical disabilities. In addition they provide janitorial services, carpet cleaning, industrial assembly, warehousing, bulk mailing, graphic design, printing, letterpress, engraving, fingerprinting, and water delivery.
